Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily It seemed like old times this week, as Jane’s Addiction got back together for a one-night-only performance. My Bloody Valentine came back around also, as did the reunited Pharcyde and Portishead. Of course, all these groups could have played this place back in the day. All sorts of new music burst onto the web: Madonna premiered Hard Candy, Nine Inch Nails dropped a surprise single and we got a taste of the in-concet stylings of Les Savy Fav. On the American Idol front, there was a David Cook-related conspiracy theory, a David Archuleta photo meme and another exit, this time from Irish lass Carly Smithson. Finally, there’s a music festival in the desert this weekend, so we got you prepared and found out what other stars were excited about. And if you miss out on Coachella, there are plenty of other festivals to check out this summer. [Photo: Getty]

A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Pharcyde Lead Rock the Bells 2008 A Tribe Called Quest, Nas, Mos Def, De La Soul, Rakim and a reunited Pharcyde lead the 2008 Rock the Bells Festival, the annual touring hip-hop event that last year featured a reunited Rage Against the Machine. Other acts on the bill include Method Man and Redman, Raekwon, Immortal Technique, Dead Prez, Spank Rock, Santogold, Jay Electronica, Murs and more. Supernatural will host the main stage. “Some people don’t want to give hip-hop tours a chance, thinking it’s a violent art form,” Murs told Rock Daily. “But Guerilla Union found a way to make a real nice, peacful, hip hop festival that is like Heaven on Earth.” The ten-city tour kicks off July 19th in Chicago and wraps up at the end of August. The tour will also head to Europe and Japan for the first time. Check out the full tour dates after the jump. Single Minded: Raekwon, Hot Chip Remix Pharcyde, Coldplay and More Raekwon feat. Mika Lett, “Once in a Lifetime” [Advance Track] For a guy who complained that the last Wu-Tang record didn’t have enough “Punch you in the face music,” Rae sure gives a lot of this song over to the sweet cooing of soul singer Mika. Maybe he meant “punch you in the face… with kisses?” Pharcyde, “Passin’ Me By” [Hot Chip Remix] Well, I didn’t think it was possible, but electro-hipsters Hot Chip somehow improve this classic Pharcyde track, making it sound like something the RZA forgot to put on Enter the Wu-Tang. Next up, Jens Lekman reworks “You Can’t Fade Me.” Nas & DJ Green Lantern, The Nigger Tape [Mixtape] He’s going to use that title one way or another. The good news is that this is incendiary, everything you’d expect and more (even with the Mike Tyson tribute). About five minutes in Green Lantern pops in to say, “I ain’t gonna do a whole lotta talking on this tape.” Fine by us. DJ Doc Roc/Coldplay, “Violet Hill” [Remix] Remember the last time we gave you a Coldplay remix? That didn’t work out so well. Well, this one we know is a Coldplay remix because the remixer was kind enough to include video. And if we can see something it must be true. That’s why we completely revised our opinion on birds after seeing Heckle & Jeckle. Magpies can talk! Pointer Sisters, “Send Him Back” (Pilooski Edit) [Remix] Man oh man: French remixer sets this 20-year-old Pointer Sisters track on fire, riveting in a lockstep dance groove and sprinkling strings all over it like fairy dust. And if that isn’t enough, check the Frankie Valli remix on the same page: thump-thump bassline, frantic percussion and a vocal that could pass for vintage soul. [Photo: Getty]
