The perks of being Sting's son Fiction Plane lead singer Joe Sumner, 30, admits he's guilty of nepotism in regards to his band's opening act gig for The Police. His dad Sting offered him the coveted spot, which Joe nearly turned down. We earned it, man. We worked from the street. No, my dad called me up and gave me the gig. I almost said no because I feel like it's a big sellout in a lot of ways. I figured if I don't do it, I'll just be pissed for a long time.Still, Joe says he's not taking advantage of his blood ties too much. While he doesn't know how much he's making on tour, he believes it's less than what Maroon 5 will take in when they inherit the slot later. Furthermore, Fiction Plane finds its own way to venues, eschewing rides on The Police's private jet. It depends on how many friends and family they bring.
