One of Venezuela's most popular music genres, Tambores (Drums) was first played in the Barlovento region by African slaves originally brought to Venezuela by Spaniards (the slaves, not the music). Tambores' tunes carry away listeners and invite entire audiences to dance and clap along. Here is a piece in which listeners participated. The singer and players carrying a Tambor walked along the shore as beachgoers followed and joined them dancing and singing.
