U2 “Spider-Man” Musical Swinging Onto Broadway February 2010Photo: Parra/FilmMagic(Bono), Honda/AFP/Getty (Spiderman) The planned Spider-Man musical, featuring music and lyrics by U2’s Bono and the Edge, will make its Broadway debut in February 2010. Previews of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark start January 16th, with the musical’s official starting date February 18th at the Hilton Theatre. Julie Taymor, director of film musical Across the Universe, is set to direct. Bono and the Edge assuredly had no shortage of material to contribute to the musical — they’re incredibly prolific these days, penning 50 to 60 songs during their No Line on the Horizon recording sessions. The real test for the Irish band’s comic book knowledge surely came into play when they wrote the musical’s lyrics. We’re hoping for a tender eight-arms-to-hold-you ballad sung by Dr. Octopus. While no casting announcements have been made yet, The Wrestler actress Evan Rachel Wood has long lobbied for the role of Peter Parker’s girlfriend Mary Jane. Wood appeared in Taymor’s Across the Universe alongside actor Jim Sturgess, who has been rumored to play Peter Parker. According to the press release, “Spider-Man’s battles will hurtle the audience through an origin story both recognizable and unexpected—yielding new characters as well as familiar faces—until a final surprising confrontation casts a startling new light on this hero’s journey.” Rolling Stone will have more details about the Spider-Man musical in the next issue, so keep an eye on stands. "Enigma" by Ill NiņoIll Nino raise a pronounced middle finger to the haters on Enigma. Metal and the mainstream should both pay attention starting now, because Ill Nino has crafted their best record to date. A chaotic combination of gnashing thrash riffs, tribal groove percussion and experimental vocals, the album is the band's masterpiece. At heart, the record shows Ill Nino pushing the limits. They've evolved past the "Nu-Metal" label that's often been tagged to them, and created a hard rock record that'll be a milestone for them. Kicking off with "Alibi of Tyrants," Ill Nino proves that they still can rip riffs with the best of them as guitarists Diego Verduzco and Ahrue Luster (Ex-Machine Head) shred fast, catchy licks. "Me Gusta La Soledad" sees Cristian Machado stretching his vocal range. It's a ballad completely sung in Spanish over a light, classical guitar line. The song is haunting, memorable and strangely catchy. Ill Nino proves powerhouse potential for the mainstream Latin market with

Phish Add 12 Shows to Reunion Tour, Plot Return to the StudioPhoto: Flanigan/WireImage After their triumphant return to the stage with a three-night stand at Virginia’s Hampton Coliseum and single-handedly crashing Live Nation’s new ticketing Website with their sold-out summer tour, the reunited Phish have scheduled 12 more concerts, starting with a four-night run at Colorado’s Red Rocks Amphitheatre July 30th to August 2nd. The band’s trip back to Red Rocks will be their first in more than 13 years. Ticket requests are now open through the Phish Website, while the general public onsale begins March 26th. In the new issue of Rolling Stone — which hits newsstands this week — David Fricke goes behind the scenes at Hampton to get the story of the band’s break-up (which began in August 2004 after a farewell fest in Coventry, Vermont), reunion and preparation for their big comeback gigs. Fricke reports that the band will rejoin producer Steve Lillywhite in the studio in April to begin work on their new album, their first since 2004’s Undermind. “I’m not convinced we’ve made a great record yet,” Trey Anastasio tells Fricke. The quartet already have 20 demos ready to go and one of the fresh songs, “Backwards Down the Number Line,” saw its live debut during the first night of the Hampton stand. ![Picture: Attention, Hollywood Investors: Make Your Checks Payable to 'Robert Shaye' [Second Chances]](http://imagecache03.pixsy.com/06052008/16/16abd1f4-508a-4082-9a02-55055b2ceb14.jpg)
Attention, Hollywood Investors: Make Your Checks Payable to 'Robert Shaye' [Second Chances]Now you, too, can get in on the ground floor of a major Hollywood investment opportunity: Deposed New Line kingpins Bob Shaye and Michael Lynne are coming back! Maybe! That's where you come in, according to Nikki Finke: At one point very early on, the duo were talking about starting another New Line (and Ted Turner offered to put up some money), but I've since been assured they have given up on that dream/nightmare. Since they pocketed an extremely generous payout from [Jeff] Bewkes (unlike all those other axed NL'ers penny-pinched by Time Warner), that's what is being used to fund the new operation for the moment. But even though Bob and Michael are centi-millionaires, they're still intent on using that tried and true Hollywood formula to fund their new operation: Other People's Money. OK, we're listening. But what's the catch? They are looking for some outside financing so they can produce third party product. I hear Lynne is trying to raise the money through his "New York Cipriani" circuit. Tipsters tell me that he may even relocate to Los Angeles — for obvious reasons. As one insider explained to me, "Unless he's there watching the store, no one's giving him money to send out to Bob." Yes, obviously! Anyway, to the extent any of this is actually true, here's a vital chance to be a part of history, like playing rhythm guitar with your favorite weekend-warrior bar band or — quite literally, perhaps — buying your very own John Waters movie, executive produced by [YOUR NAME HERE]. Don't expect anything in return, like a meeting with "Bob's pal" Peter Jackson or, you know, profit, but really, what price can you put on working with a pair of the industry's last true mavericks? Come to think of it, don't answer that — Shaye will have that figure for you when you meet. Just remember the magic words: Unmarked bills. Let's make a deal! i'm starting a rockband! hey hey! oh my goodness - i was at disneyland for THIRTEEN hours yesterday - which is a long ass time to be walking around! i did have tons of fun but let me tell you that when the sun went down - it was so cold! my toes were frozen - today every part of me was so damn sore (and i had the worst headache) but i managed to hit up my favorite rides like indiana jones and the haunted mansion which was all decked out in nightmare before christmas style! plus i did also hit up the new finding nemo submarine ride although there was no 'fastpass' for that attraction and the line was insanely long but they did an awesome job at resurrecting their 'under the sea' ride (it used to be for 20,000 leagues under the sea but now it's all about nemo) i think i've had my fill of disney fun for a while - i like to go once a year since it is a total blast but it really does take a lot out of you! anyways today i finished up my holiday shopping and i decided to get myself rockband for my PS3 since i've been so obsessed with guitar hero - i wanted to take it to the next level! this game includes a drum set, a guitar (that can also play bass) and a microphone - you can play solo or your friends can join in - next week my pal joey and i will begin rehearsals for the band that we've planned to toss together! of course it's not a real band but we can still rock out for fun! (oh my word when i first heard about 'rockband' i was all i don't need that but now i'm a fiend for more rocking out video games!) when i picked it up today it was the very last one in the store and i thought people were going to try and jump me for it! i'm assuming it is the hot ticket item this holiday season and i've seen so many people buying 'guitar hero' - it's crazy! everyone is going to have that game soon - and they should - i love it! (i bet it won't be long before there's a reality show centered around the game!) popbytes over & out for tonight...xxoo!
