- the signs of greater things to come!

A Pagan Place is light years ahead of the debut Waterboys, but not yet at the heights they would reach on This Is The Sea. The early sound of the band is formulating nicely, with some very strong songs here - the title track DEMANDS your full attention! The re-issue is essential for hard-core Waterboys fans who must own this for the full, unedited versions of The Thrill Is Gone & All The Things She Gave Me. The sound quality is much better on this disc than the original. The previously unreleased tracks generally are 'interesting - for collectors only'. However, great thanks go out to the people involved in making this re-issue - is there a "This Is The Sea" reissue coming?

- Yes Australia- This is the Best Album of All Time

I agree with you Australia- this is the best album of all-time. I have yet to hear an album that combines as much passion and energy as "A Pagan Place" does. Saw them open up for U2 during the 14 city 'Unforgettable Fire' tour of America- they blew me away.

- Great things start here

I've been a fan of the Waterboys for 20 years, but just recently purchased this CD. It's interesting to hear these songs that preceded their next great albums: This Is The Sea and Fisherman's Blues. My favorite is the title track, which comes at you like a wall of sound. Phil Spector would not feel out of place. Not sure the bonus tracks add a lot, but they are fun to hear. The whole album makes a great listen on road trips. Considering the time that this originally came out, it feels miles ahead of the competition in songwriting quality & production. If you like their later work (especially This Is The Sea), check this out!

- Best Album of All Time

No joke. Nothing has endeavoured to combine such original tunes with the most interesting selection of instruments. Truly one of the best recordings in modern music.
