Coroner: Pimp C Died of Accidental Cough Syrup Overdose, Sleep Apnea Los Angeles coroners have determined that a combination of sleep apnea and cough syrup are responsible for the death of UGK’s Pimp C, who was found dead in an L.A. hotel in December. The coroners also ruled that the death was accidental. Sleep apnea is a condition that blocks one’s air passages, causing sufferers to briefly stop breathing while sleeping, while the prescription drug in question, Promethazine/Codeine, is a cough syrup combination that often appears in rap song lyrics (including Three 6 Mafia and UGK’s own “Sippin’ on Some Syrup”). Pimp C was thirty-three. UGK’s Pimp C Found Dead in Hollywood According to TMZ, and confirmed by a Jive Records rep, UGK MC Pimp C, real name Chad Butler, was found dead in a Hollywood hotel room this morning. He was thirty-three. Rescue workers responding to a 911 call from the Mondrian Hotel found the rapper in his bed. In a statement, Jive Records head Barry Weiss said, “We mourn the unexpected loss of Chad. He was truly a thoughtful and kind-hearted person. He will be remembered for his talent and profound influence as a pioneer in bringing southern rap to the forefront … he was a cherished member of the Jive family.” Less than two months ago, the UGK’s (Underground Kingz) Pimp C and Bun B, along with OutKast’s Big Boi, were called to the stage at the BET Awards by Kanye West after West announced the UGK’s “International Players Anthem” was more worthy of the Best Hip-Hop Video award than his own “Stronger,” which won. The UGK’s seventh album Underground Kingz, debuted atop the Billboard charts in August of this year, and featured guests like OutKast, T.I., Too $hort (with whom Pimp C performed with Saturday night at L.A.’s House of Blues), Three Six Mafia and many more. The album has gone on to sell over 500,000 copies. “Pimp C highly influenced the rap game. A lot of rappers adopted his rap style and his production techniques,” Too $hort said in a statement. “He was my best friend and fortunately, I was just with him onstage Saturday night at the House of Blues on Sunset. He was in a good mood, smiling and laughing. That’s how I’ll always remember him.” The duo formed in 1992 and enjoyed moderate success before huge guest spots on Jay-Z’s “Big Pimpin’” and Three Six Mafia’s “Sippin’ on Some Sizzup” boosted their reputation. In 2002, Pimp C was incarcerated on aggrevated assault charges, and upon his release in 2005, the Port Arthur, TX, rap duo re-formed. Tributes a

Report: Sean Combs’ Associates Allegedly Responsible for Tupac Shakur’s 1994 Shooting Newly discovered information in the November 30, 1994, unsolved shooting of rapper Tupac Shakur at NYC’s Quad Studios alleges that the failed assassination of Shakur was masterminded by a pair of Sean “Puffy” Combs’ associates, the Los Angeles Times reports. According to the investigation, talent agent James “Jimmy Henchman” Rosemond and promoter James Sabatino orchestrated the attack because Shakur rebuffed offers to leave Interscope Records for Combs’ Bad Boy Records. Unaware of Rosemond and Sabatino’s plans, Shakur went to Quad Studios thinking he was going to get $7,000 to record a vocal track for rapper Little Shawn’s album, which Rosemond was producing. Instead, Shakur was met in the building’s lobby by three assailants (allegedly hired by Sabatino), who proceeded to first rob the rapper, then shoot him three times, once in the head, hand and thigh. (Shakur accidentally shot himself in the groin when reaching for his own weapon.) The three assailants then made off with Shakur’s $40,000 chain to make it look like a robbery. Shakur wasn’t killed, however. Bleeding badly, he limped his way into the elevator and up to the tenth floor, where the studios were housed. The hierarchy of Bad Boy Records (including Combs) was in the studio recording the debut Junior M.A.F.I.A. album, and when Tupac reached the tenth floor, he accosted Rosemond by asking, “Why you let them know I’m coming here?” Shakur, with four bullets in him, then “sat on a couch and rolled a joint” before paramedics arrived. Shakur would survive the attack, but the violence escalated, ultimately claiming the lives of Shakur and the Notorious B.I.G. Sabatino is currently serving an eleven-and-a-half year prison sentence for wire fraud and racketeering, while Rosemond is the president of Czar Entertainment, which represents rappers Too $hort, Gucci Mane, Shyne and the Game. Coldplay Gifts Fans With Pretenders Cover, Thom Yorke to Release Remixes, Jay-Z’s “Gangster” Meets the Real “Godfather” and More With only twelve days to go ’til Christmas, Coldplay has posted an early present on their Web site for their fans: “2000 Miles,” the band’s cover of the Pretenders song. “We love Christmas songs, but every time we try and write one it’s awful,” Chris Martin writes. Maybe Martin could learn a thing or two from the Killers. Thom Yorke will revisit his solo career early next year as he releases three 12′’ singles featuring nine remixes of tracks from his debut album The Eraser. Among the remixers are the Field, Burial, Four Tet and Modeselektor. The seventh annual Ponderosa Stomp is branching out to include conference panels next year. The American music fest will take place April 29th and 30th in New Orleans and feature performances by Ronnie Spector, Roky Erickson and more. To celebrate getting picked up for another season on HBO, or because they’re just overflowing with humor, mock rockers Flight of the Conchords will release a full-length album in April 2008. From Broadway to the Mafia way: After Jay-Z’s American Gangster received the show-tune treatment, now DJ Skee has mashed-up Jigga’s new album with the score from The Godfather.

Rewind: The Week in Rock Daily Kanye West and Amy Winehouse picked up the most Grammy nominations, while the White Stripes nabbed one of the weirdest. Rolling Stone couldn’t resist making some early picks for who will win on Grammy night — and who should win. Tom Petty spoke exclusively to Rolling Stone about his upcoming Super Bowl halftime performance, the long-overdue next Heartbreakers record and staying away from corporate rock — as well as reuniting his pre-Heartbreakers band, Mudcrutch. In response, we broke out photos from the book Runnin’ Down a Dream, which traces the band’s history. Led Zeppelin mania continued as we began the final countdown to the band’s Monday night reunion show in London with an album-by-album guide to every Zep release and bonus excerpts from our cover-story interviews. Rolling Stone hopped on the tour bus with Paramore to find out why Hayley Williams and Co. travel with hunting gear and enough cereal to feed a small nation. Pimp C (real name: Chad Butler) of Grammy-nominated rap duo UGK died in Los Angeles; Bun B, Chamillionaire, Paul Wall and Three 6 Mafia’s DJ Paul remembered their fallen friend.

by: Mickey M. Wright Jr. I'm tryna get wealthy round this piece. Need to DO WORK and make that happen. So this is my first stab at this whole “bloggin” thing…I’m supa busy all the time. Between family and my biz (HiTz Committee, Jive, New Era, etc.) I ain’t got a minute to rest! I’m all ova the place and so I’m given ya a taste of that- the blog might be all ova the damn place! Lets get it poppin… Had a major moment on Friday- Puff and Chris Lighty introduced me as “MeMpHiTz aka Young Diddy” to a entire class of Baltimore kids while I was at the Bad Boy offices to talk about what I do in the industry. I told them my story- about how I went from an intern to CEO of my own company- HiTz Committee, kept it extra crispy wit em about the game and life, and they loved it. They said I inspired them! That made me feel high! I took pics with the kids and let them wear my chain. Friday night I went to my homegirl Massah’s birthday party at this very very cool spot downtown . . .It was star studded in that piece-Jigga was in there, Diddy came through, Melyssa Ford, my homie Bu. Out tha frame! Watched that Rob and Big shit this weekend- funny as hell. It’s one of the only reality shows that I really laugh at. Those two mofos are crazy even though he uses my “DO WORK” slogan. But it’s cool . . . I own the slogan anyway. I'll be so glad when they bring back Three 6 Mafia’s “Adventures in Hollyhood.” It’s super funny, and they from Memphis like me! On Monday I took my new HiTz Committee artist, Asia Cruise, to TRL. She killed it! She looked fly, was on point, we made it on the million…dollar screen again! I gotta get ready for my New Era 901 fitteds to come out this week...The line is going to be off the chain… I'm tryna get wealthy round this piece. Need to DO WORK and make that happen. My family is very important to me, and my daughter told me this week she needed a vacation, so I gotta think of somewhere to take her! But check me out tomorrow
