Thrice builds its aesthetic on the foundations of Southern California punk predecessors such as Bad Religion, and, like that revered group, Thrice are politically motivated and combine jackhammer rhythms, searing guitars, and raw-throated vocals with a keen ear for melody. <p>At nine tracks, two of which are live and one of which is a bootleg recording, the audio-only portion of IF WE COULD ONLY SEE US NOW is essentially an EP of rarities that accompanies the in-depth DVD (which includes live performances and band interviews). Ferocious, blistering cuts like "Eclipse" will please the most devoted headbangers, while an epic cover of the Beatles' "Eleanor Rigby" and "Stare at the Sun," a lilting acoustic number with orchestral backing, prove that the band are versatile and adventurous.
