Weekend Rock List: Self-Titled AlbumsThis weekend’s Rock List is dedicated to all those artists work so hard on their albums, then go the lazy eponymous route when it comes time to name it (we kid, we kid: but thrice, Weezer?). Tell us your favorite Self-Titled Albums, and on Monday we’ll count up the votes to reveal which artist released the best album named after himself/herself/itself. A couple of rules: We lovingly call them the White Album and the Black Album, but they’re really The Beatles and Metallica, so they count. Also, the name of the band isn’t Led Zeppelin III, so only Led Zeppelin applies. Now that that’s all mapped out, check out our picks: • The Beatles • Weezer (Blue) • The Stone Roses • The Clash • Metallica

Thrice working on new releaseThrice are currently writing new material for the follow up to their 2007 and 2008's Alchemy Index releases. "Things are going pretty rad," said vocalist/guitarist Dustin Kensrue. "We have maybe eight songs that are near final draft phase (not lyrics) and maybe four more that are half way there." "[We're] gonna finish those up and maybe add another and start tracking," he continued."Actually, the first song we’ll be tracking next month and maybe some of you at [US festival] Bamboozle Left will get a sneak peak!"

Single Minded: Mariah Carey, Thrice, M83 and More Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more. Mariah Carey, “Bye Bye” [Official] Carey says E=MC² is a sequel to 2005’s Emancipation of Mimi. We can’t get the acronym to work out, either, but it’s no matter: This E is almost as charming as the last one. Exhibit A: this bright gospel number in which Mimi bids a heartfelt farewell to friends who have left this world and have gone somewhere better. Frightened Rabbit, “The Modern Leper” [MySpace] This Scottish quartet describes the delicate art of getting dumped and, in the process, creates one of the year’s best rock records. By the time the whole band comes charging in on the chorus, your whole body will be made of gooseflesh. Thrice, “Broken Lungs” [MySpace] This is the final installment in Thrice’s series of concept albums about the four elements. But wait! Come back! The first part might have been a dud, but “Broken Lungs” proves the California group is finding their way back: Coils of guitar expand and contract slowly as Dustin Kensrue’s weatherbeaten tenor voices the great existential questions — where did we come from, where are we going and what possessed us to write concept albums about earth, wind, fire and water? M83, “Graveyard Girl” [Pitchfork.tv] An early frontrunner for single of the year, this new wave chestnut by French one-man band M83 is three minutes of raw teenage pain in search of a John Hughes movie. By the time we get to the spoken word passage, where the girl of the title announces, “I’m fifteen years old, and I feel it’s already too late to live,” we’re in the car and halfway to Duckie’s house, tears streaming down our face. Children of Bodom, “Hellhounds on My Trail” [MySpace] So, a few quick things you should know about Children of

On the Charts: Conchords Fly Above Ashlee, Land Below Mariah and Leona The Big News: An engagement and a (possible) pregnancy wasn’t enough to help Ashlee Simpson, as the singer’s new album Bittersweet World landed at number four with 47,387 copies sold. Simpson was beat out by Mariah Carey’s E=MC2, which took number one for a second consecutive week, Leona Lewis‘ Spirit at two and, surprisingly, Flight of the Conchords’ self-titled debut, which grabbed the third spot with 52,133 copies sold. That’s right: Pete Wentz’s fiancée got edged by the comic duo who were on the show that followed Big Love on HBO. Atmosphere’s When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint that Shit Gold rounded out the top five in its debut week. Debuts: Story of the Year’s Black Swan scooped eighteen, the Weepies’ Hideaway took thirty-one and Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy’s H.N.I.C. Part 2 claimed thirty-six, giving the jailed rapper something to brag about to the other inmates. Tokyo Police Club’s freshman Elephant Shell nabbed 106, while Elbow’s Seldom Seen Kid placed in at 109. Last Week Heroes: Carey and Lewis remained in the one-two spot. R.E.M.’s Accelerate finally fell out of the top ten after a month, dropping to seventeen, along with the suddenly-mortal Alvin & the Chipmunks soundtrack, which dropped to twelve. But the biggest drop from last week goes to Rush’s Snakes & Arrows Live and Thrice’s Alchemy Index: Vol. 3-4, as Rush plunged from eighteen to 110 and Thrice followed from seventeen to 111. Also, shoulder-bearing Miley Cyrus‘ Hannah Montana 2 soundtrack went triple-platinum. [Photo: Amelia Handscomb]

The collection will feature a live performance from the band's show at the House Of Blues in Anaheim California, as well as behind the scenes footage and interviews. In related news, Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue has plans to release a Christmas album in November. The collection will be a digital only release, with eight cover tracks and two original Christmas-themed songs. "I just finished my Christmas Record. I haven’t really mentioned it because (a) I’ve been spending all my time working on it, and (b) I wasn’t totally sure I would finish it in time to come out this year," says the singer. "But, last night I finished it up and Teppei [Thrice guitarist] is finishing the mixes tonight. It’s going to be an online release only and will hopefully be out in mid-November sometime. The title is This Good Night Is Still Everywhere. I love Christmas music so it was a lot of fun to do this and I’m glad I get to share it with you guys. More info to come in the future."

Thrice-Married Catholic Not Considered So Religious • Only 13 percent of responders think Rudy Giuliani is "of strong religious faith," according to a Time poll — and that's lower than Hillary's number (15 percent). But he once wanted to close down an art exhibit for blasphemy! [NYP] • "The very character of the Northeast is at stake" if greenhouse gases aren't reduced, a new study warns. Poised to vanish: Long Island lobsters and New York apples. What will thrive: smog, pollen, and floods. And, clearly, Claritin sales. [NYT] • An L.A.-to-London flight was diverted to JFK this morning because of a "suspicious passenger." Michael Chertoff's gut told him it was a harmless misunderstanding. [WNBC] • Shelly Silver still won't agree to bring the Assembly to the table for congestion-pricing talks — even as the desperate Mayor Bloomberg says he'll fly to Albany tomorrow. By now, we're just looking forward to Monday, when this mess will be over. [NYDN] • And, starting today, the MTA adds a "Mets express" to its 7 line: a one-stop service from midtown to Shea. It's just for an hour on game days, but funny thing: If they did it year-round, Willets Point might actually be habitable. [amNY]

Date Night!LezLo and saMAN Ronson caught a movie together late on Sunday evening (at 11:00 P.M.) What film did they go see? Pineapple Express, obviously! We're sure the thrice-rehabbed Lohan could really relate to that film. On their way out, the lovebirds were met by the paparazzi. When one photog asked LezLo if she and saMAN could hold hands and [...]
