Thrice set DVD and Xmas releaseThrice have revealed that they will be releasing a CD/DVD combo called Thrice Live At The House Of Blues in December. The collection will feature a live performance from the band's show at the House Of Blues in Anaheim California, as well as behind the scenes footage and interviews. In related news, Thrice frontman Dustin Kensrue has plans to release a Christmas album in November. The collection will be a digital only release, with eight cover tracks and two original Christmas-themed songs. "I just finished my Christmas Record. I haven’t really mentioned it because (a) I’ve been spending all my time working on it, and (b) I wasn’t totally sure I would finish it in time to come out this year," says the singer. "But, last night I finished it up and Teppei [Thrice guitarist] is finishing the mixes tonight. It’s going to be an online release only and will hopefully be out in mid-November sometime. The title is This Good Night Is Still Everywhere. I love Christmas music so it was a lot of fun to do this and I’m glad I get to share it with you guys. More info to come in the future."

On the Charts: Conchords Fly Above Ashlee, Land Below Mariah and Leona The Big News: An engagement and a (possible) pregnancy wasn’t enough to help Ashlee Simpson, as the singer’s new album Bittersweet World landed at number four with 47,387 copies sold. Simpson was beat out by Mariah Carey’s E=MC2, which took number one for a second consecutive week, Leona Lewis‘ Spirit at two and, surprisingly, Flight of the Conchords’ self-titled debut, which grabbed the third spot with 52,133 copies sold. That’s right: Pete Wentz’s fiancée got edged by the comic duo who were on the show that followed Big Love on HBO. Atmosphere’s When Life Gives You Lemons, You Paint that Shit Gold rounded out the top five in its debut week. Debuts: Story of the Year’s Black Swan scooped eighteen, the Weepies’ Hideaway took thirty-one and Mobb Deep rapper Prodigy’s H.N.I.C. Part 2 claimed thirty-six, giving the jailed rapper something to brag about to the other inmates. Tokyo Police Club’s freshman Elephant Shell nabbed 106, while Elbow’s Seldom Seen Kid placed in at 109. Last Week Heroes: Carey and Lewis remained in the one-two spot. R.E.M.’s Accelerate finally fell out of the top ten after a month, dropping to seventeen, along with the suddenly-mortal Alvin & the Chipmunks soundtrack, which dropped to twelve. But the biggest drop from last week goes to Rush’s Snakes & Arrows Live and Thrice’s Alchemy Index: Vol. 3-4, as Rush plunged from eighteen to 110 and Thrice followed from seventeen to 111. Also, shoulder-bearing Miley Cyrus‘ Hannah Montana 2 soundtrack went triple-platinum. [Photo: Amelia Handscomb]

Single Minded: Mariah Carey, Thrice, M83 and More Every Tuesday Single Minded highlights new tracks hitting stores (or the Web) this week. On Fridays, come back for rarities, remixes, mash-ups and more. Mariah Carey, “Bye Bye” [Official] Carey says E=MC² is a sequel to 2005’s Emancipation of Mimi. We can’t get the acronym to work out, either, but it’s no matter: This E is almost as charming as the last one. Exhibit A: this bright gospel number in which Mimi bids a heartfelt farewell to friends who have left this world and have gone somewhere better. Frightened Rabbit, “The Modern Leper” [MySpace] This Scottish quartet describes the delicate art of getting dumped and, in the process, creates one of the year’s best rock records. By the time the whole band comes charging in on the chorus, your whole body will be made of gooseflesh. Thrice, “Broken Lungs” [MySpace] This is the final installment in Thrice’s series of concept albums about the four elements. But wait! Come back! The first part might have been a dud, but “Broken Lungs” proves the California group is finding their way back: Coils of guitar expand and contract slowly as Dustin Kensrue’s weatherbeaten tenor voices the great existential questions — where did we come from, where are we going and what possessed us to write concept albums about earth, wind, fire and water? M83, “Graveyard Girl” [Pitchfork.tv] An early frontrunner for single of the year, this new wave chestnut by French one-man band M83 is three minutes of raw teenage pain in search of a John Hughes movie. By the time we get to the spoken word passage, where the girl of the title announces, “I’m fifteen years old, and I feel it’s already too late to live,” we’re in the car and halfway to Duckie’s house, tears streaming down our face. Children of Bodom, “Hellhounds on My Trail” [MySpace] So, a few quick things you should know about Children of

How I Really Lost My Virginity, “Catholic Exchange”This weekend, during a routine thrice daily Googling of my own name, I came upon the following article over at CatholicExchange.com, written by fierce ultra-conservative media watchdog L. Brent Bozell III. The article was entitled "Running Purity Rings Around MTV", and it went on to state: The “Best Week Ever” blog on Viacom’s VH-1 website featured writer Michelle Collins bragging about losing her own virginity in a druggy haze and sneering that virginity at 17 is too normal to be courageous. “Now, if you’re still waxing ho-etic about your unplowed territory at 30 - and from the inside of your padded cell, of course - then, maybe, we’ll take you seriously.” First of all, let me take a moment to gently pat myself on the back for finally becoming legitimate enough to be admonished by an ultra-conservative Christian group. I haven't been this proud of myself since Rush Limbaugh called me a "depraved lunatic" on the air some years ago. But more importantly, let's take a look back to the passage that incited this mini-rant from Mssr. Bozell: Guess what, America? I was also a virgin at 17, only my “promise ring” came in the form of oversized Tommy Hilfiger shirts and slap bracelets and backward jeans! (Hey, it was the 90s… ok 1998.) But I still managed to blossom thanks to a Jamaican man named Clarence and 2 pounds of some special herb he wrapped up in paper and lit on fire. FESS UP TIME: That is not, in fact, how I lost my virginity. No Jamaican men were involved, and the first and last time I smoked "herb", I ended up at St. Luke's Hospital not being able to breathe and sobbing uncontrollably. In fact, my ladyhood was lost at a most respectable age -- no promise rings involved -- and the story was much, much more romantic... The real story of how I lost my virginity... ahead. . . . It was sunset and the air smelled sweet. The perfect time for a quick sail. I strapped my lifevest on, and paddled my gigantic roofie canoe down the huge, red river of my own hymen blood. Sud

Fernando Torres Is On A Hat-Trick THE Star says that Spain and Liverpool striker Fernando Torres is “addicted” to the number 3. Torres is turns out does every thing three times, everything three times, everything three times. Torres has three sets of shorts, tops and socks laid out before each game. He recites the Frankie Howerd mantra “Nay, nay and thrice nay” three times before meals. He envies England players with their three lions on their chests. Says a source: “Nobody was surprised when he ordered three games rooms at his house.” Least of all his three wives…
