- Intelligent, Creative, and Essential TIAMAT music.
As a band, TIAMAT is continously evolving. Wildhoney seems to be the favorite of this band's albums and there's nothing incorrect with that. A Deeper Kind of Slumber is a considerable work as well. If you only enjoy HEAVY TIAMAT music read no further. If you appreciate the development that Edlund has undergone you can appreciate this album. Overall the album contains more synthesized music than their previous guitar riff'd albums. Edlund's vocals are deep and poignant. His lyrics deliver subtle AND strong ideas. This album involves the use of the keyboard, the theremin, violin, cello, flute, obeo and the citar. This experimental album is rich in it's musical resources, and can be appreciated for that in and of itself. The opener "Cold Seed" is a strong song with powerful guitars, and delivers the most "punch" guitar-wise on the album. Edlund cleverly melds songs together such as TEONANCATL, and Trillion Zillion Centipedes, as he has done previously. "Atlantis as a Lover", is an extremely powerful song and entertains the listener with it's poetic content and mild manner. "Only in My Tears it Lasts" begins with a industrial "poppy" edge, but delivers wonderfully with its lyrics and eventual soothing atmosphere. "The Whores of Babylon" is just as powerful and brutal as "Cold Seed", but it accomplishes this through it's industrial power and strong beat. In "Mount Marilyn", and "A Deeper Kind of Slumber", it is easy to see how Edlund draws inspiration from Floyd, and yet the style is still one of his own. Grab a copy of "A Deeper Kind of Slumber", listen to it, enjoy it, dissect it, appreciate it, and if you can...listen to "Atlantis As A Lover," on the beach near the ocean!

- Haunting , atmospheric metal ?
While I'm not a metalhead , I do enjoy some of the fine music of the metal world.I recently listened to this cd and is certainly one of a kind. It's like a haunting, soothing , melancholic, psycodellic , atmospheric feeling. I've heard Tiamat's other cd's which, although highly rated, lack the emotion and tension of this gem. I recommend listening to this cd in those moments when you want to sit alone, gaze at the heavens , feel the wind blowing in your skin and let your mind travel to a deeper kind of slumber...

- Underestimated
I bought this cd over ten years ago, and just popped it in again having not paid attention to it for some time.
It has a timeless quality, and a darker version of Pink Floyd is not an unfair nor unwarranted comparison. I was a huge fan of industrial back when I bought this album, and it managed--not--to fit neatly into any given category of industrial or metal. It was too subtle really, for either category. Mood-wise, if anyone remembers Ministry's "Dream Song" from the "Mind is a Terrible Thing to Taste" album, this whole album creates a melancholy reminiscent of that song, without the horror type theme.
It's incredibly atmospheric, and it sculpts a mood like no other cd in my collection. Very dreamlike. I can think of no other bands that sound like Tiamat... Katatonia (just a little bit) type-O (but nowhere near as deep and low as Peter Steele). They really achieved an unparalleled sound with this record and it belongs in your collection.
Now having rediscovered this great band I must mine the discography...

- great atmospheric music from sweden
This is the best tiamat album ever. The songs are so melodic and emotional. The album title corresponds exactly to the music inside. Be prepared for a wonderful journey in another dimension.....

- just a Masterpice, Tiamat's crown jewel
This is for a lot of metalfans a disappointing cd, for it is too soft or slow. But be aware: this music is addicting, very addicting; like lsd or a mushroom-experience! What's the case? This cd let us experience Tiamat's (or better: Johan Edlund's) deepest, darkest emotions and his experiences with harddrugs. The songs on this cd are hypnotical, repetitive, hypnotizing the listener in such a manner that the only thing the listener can do is: press the repeatbutton and listen to it again, and again, and... This is my favourite cd (together with In The Woods's Strange in Stereo)and is best listened to when you are drugged a little bit. Listen to all the songs, for this is one of the very few cd's in which the cd get's better if the end is nearing: the last three songs are maybe the best songs (especially Phantasma De Luxe and Mount Marilyn). And listen to it more than five times, for you will discover new sounds every time, even after two years and 100 listenings...Enjoy the experience!
