PLAYING FAST BUT NOT LOOSETAKE a breath, blink an eye, drink a beer, and the Tokyo Police Club show at Webster Hall was over. At least that's what it felt like Wednesday at the Canadian band's whirlwind hour-plus concert, in which the quartet's brief set was filled with...

News Ticker: Voodoo Festival, Velvet Revolver and Live Nation Death Cab for Cutie, Panic at the Disco, Lupe Fiasco and more acts have been added to New Orleans’ Voodoo Festival on October 24-26. Wyclef and Tokyo Police Club also join a lineup that includes headliners Nine Inch Nails, R.E.M. and Stone Temple Pilots. Unknown singers lobbying to be Velvet Revolver’s new vocalist are campaigning on YouTube to get heard. While VR’s Matt Sorum admitted the band has listened to submissions mailed to the band, it’s unknown if the group is using YouTube to recruit a Scott Weiland replacement. According to reports, Live Nation chairman Michael Cohl is currently negotiating his exit from the concert giant. As we reported last week, Cohl had been feuding with Live Nation over the company’s direction. Cohl’s departure may have affected a potential Rolling Stones deal (a contract the band has denied), as Cohl has promoted every Stones tour since 1989. [Photo: Getty]

Lil Wayne, Death Cab For Cutie Highlight Full Voodoo Festival Lineup New Orleans’ Voodoo Festival, set to hit the Big Easy October 24-26, has revealed its full performer line-up. In addition to the headliners R.E.M., Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple Pilots, Death Cab for Cutie, Panic at the Disco, Erykah Badu and N’Awlins prodigal son Lil Waynein will play in the more mainstream Le Ritual section of the festival. Much like the city itself, the Voodoo Festival is split into three distinct sections. The Le Flambeau area will feature music more in tune with the hometown sounds of New Orleans with sets by Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk, the Blind Boys of Alabama, Dirty Dozen Brass Band and the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra. The third section, Le Carnival, will feature a bunch of Big Easy indie bands, burlesque shows and circus acts. It’s like a three-day Mardi Gras over in that Le Carnival section. Hit the jump for the complete list of all the performers playing Voodoo. New Orleans Voodoo Festival 2008 R.E.M. Silverchair, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Cold War Kids Rock the Early Shift at Lollapalooza’s Day Two Before any band even begins playing, Saturday is off to a promising start. Overcast skies and lower temperatures are a welcome relief from the heat, and the hand-sanitizer dispensers have actually been refilled.Boy-girl Brooklyn synth-pop duo Matt & Kim are equally enthused. Neither can believe the size of the stage or the throng of people awaiting them. “Look how my boobs look up there. That is so not to size!” exclaims drummer Kim Schifino upon seeing her body up on the projection screen. Her partner, keyboardist Matt Johnson, is downright giddy. Their pastel tunes belong in a basement, not on a bandshell, though that doesn’t prevent “Grand” and “Yea Yeah” from registering cute-factor points. Later, Matt & Kim pull double duty, subbing for the cancelled CSS. Tokyo Police Club also express shock at attracting a decent crowd. Sonically, the Toronto quartet doesn’t stay in the same place for too long, and its approach borders on train-wreck looseness, yet somehow everything gels. The group punctuates its hectic garage-cum-indie rock with red-throat yelps and spiky bursts of sound. A few fans wave Canadian flags as keyboardist Graham Wright flails about and tambourines fly through the air during a forty-five-minute set that lives up to the hype. Speaking of expectations, 2006 buzz band Tapes ‘n Tapes take the stage next, and despite similarities between the two acts — herky-jerky motions, disjointed new-wave synthesizers, staggered tempos — the Minneapolis foursome is far artier. Maybe the group is distracted by the wafting pot smoke, but they threaten their set’s momentum with an overabundance of pauses and tempo changes. A few stages away, Silverchair is performing in the area for the first time in recent memory. Shirtless and sporting a headband, leader Daniel Johns embraces his inner rock star. The stadium-directed anthems are proudly populist and carried by falsetto vocals. Thanks to the band’s ringing chords, basic structures, showy

Tokyo Police Club Pay a Visit to Wisteria LaneIn case you were busy watching last night’s TRL finale, you missed a strange collision of cultures over on ABC, as Canadian indie rockers Tokyo Police Club guested on Desperate Housewives. The plot of the episode centered around a “Battle of the Bands” night at a club somewhere close to Wisteria Lane. The TPC boys appeared as a group called Coldsplash but played one of their originals “In a Cave.” Two of the band members even had lines in the episode, but those were apparently edited out of the final version. “”I walked past Eva Longoria at one point but I didn’t say hi,” said keyboardist Graham Wright. “You know how it is, they probably had better things to do than talk to us.” Related Stories: • Breaking: Tokyo Police Club • Tokyo Police Club Rock With Weezer, Angels & Airwaves on Tour • Album Review: Tokyo Police Club: Elephant Shell
