I bought this disc on the recommendation of the Rough Guide to Reggae" And the book does not lie. This a fantastic collection of early Maytals material.
The previous reviewer's complaints about the sound quality are over stated. You know whether you like the Maytals and, presumedly, you know what it means to buy a disc that has been dubbed from rare 45s.
"Monkey Man", two versions of "Bla Bla Bla", and "54-46 That's My Number"-- not the version that you are familiar with.
This is a fantastic collection.
...This is one of the worst recordings I have ever heard. Fading back and forth between stereo and mono, overwhelming static and echo...this is just nasty.
I love Toots, and there are only a couple of cuts here that you can't find on the fabulous "The Very Best of Toots," which I heartily recommend as an alternative.
This CD is a shame, as there are a couple of cuts I have never seen on other Toots offerings, but the quality is just so poor that there is little opportunity to enjoy any new discoveries.
Stay Away!
