Metallica Reveal “Death Magnetic” Track ListAfter a sheet music website accidentally revealed (and then deleted) the track list for Metallica’s Death Magnetic earlier today, the band confirmed the ten songs that will appear on their Rick Rubin-produced album, due out in September. One title immediately jumps out: “The Unforgiven III,” following the Metallica’s “The Unforgiven” and roughly 11 years after ReLoad’s “The Unforgiven II.” The rest of the song titles are packed with common Metallica-esque themes of nightmares, suicides and the apocalypse. There’s also a song called “The End of the Line,” which shares its title with a Traveling Wilburys song, but we’re assuming it’s not a cover. Despite reports from earlier in the day, there’s no track called “Death Magnetic” included. The album isn’t due out for another two months, so you still have plenty of time to figure out if you want these ten songs delivered to you in a coffin box and sufficiently prepare yourself to play “Broken, Beat & Scarred” on Guitar Hero III. The full track list and proper running order are after the jump. “That Was Just Your Life” “The End Of The Line” “Broken, Beat & Scarred” “The Day That Never Comes” “All Nightmare Long” “Cyanide” “The Unforgiven III” “The Judas Kiss” “Suicide & Redemption” “My Apocalypse”

Tom Petty Opens Up About George Harrison, Mudcrutch and Keeping Out of PoliticsPhoto: Walter/Getty In an exclusive interview posted on his Website (conducted by fellow rocker Warren Zanes), Tom Petty talks about his Super Bowl performance, Mudcrutch and Barack Obama. On the Traveling Wilburys, Petty says “I think George [Harrison]’s move — I’m sure of it, really — had to do with the fact that he just didn’t want to be the guy up front, no matter that he had a Number One album at the time. He never wanted that. And the Wilburys gave him a way around it.” “I think I often feel the same way. There are times I’d just like to step into the crowd, but I have to be responsible for standing up front and singing every song,” Petty says about his side project. “With Mudcrutch there’s not much pretense. They just treat me like everybody else. That makes a difference and really allows the band thing to happen in an authentic way.” As for Mudcrutch’s upcoming Extended Play Live, “I didn’t want to do a live album because I thought it would be too much of a mirror image of what we had done in the studio,” Petty says. “But when I heard things like the 15-minute version of ‘Crystal River’ from the Troubadour, my mind was changed.” As for his closely guarded presidential pick, “Right now change is certainly more necessary than it has ever been, so I do have strong feelings about an Obama victory. But I don’t go out on stage and campaign for him. I think it’s up to the individual to vote the way he or she wants.” Read the entirety of Tom Petty’s interview here. Tom Petty Blows Through Hits and Deep Cuts at MSG Early on in Tom Petty’s sold-out Madison Square Garden gig he uttered words rarely heard at his shows: “You probably don’t know this next one.” The band then launched into the super obscure 1999 Europe-only B side “Sweet William.” The bluesy, organ-heavy number was a clear indication this wasn’t going to be the typical nothing-but-the-hits Petty show he’s done on recent tours. With no new album to support, Petty was free to drag out the gems. This doesn’t mean he avoided his massive arsenal of hits. The show began with a 1-2-3-4-5 punch of “You Wreck Me,” “Last Dance With Mary Jane,” “I Won’t Back Down,” “Even The Losers” and “Free Falling.” Nearly anyone else would save a song like the latter — which is so taylor made for arenas even the beer guys and ushers were singing along — but Petty has such a huge stable of war horses he could bust it out early with no problem. Rarities soon followed, such as the Traveling Wilburys’ “End Of The Line,” which featured a few Heartbreakers subbing in for Petty’s absent bandmates and the Full Moon Fever track “A Face In The Crowd.” Opening act Steve Winwood — who last played The Garden a few months ago during his reunion shows with Eric Clapton — came out midway through Petty’s set and lead the Heartbreakers on killer versions of Blind Faith’s “Can’t Find My Way Home” and the Spencer Davis Group’s “Gimme Some Loving,” which featured blazing organ work by Winwood. Around this point it became abundantly clear that the Heartbreakers are one of the greatest backing bands out there. Any song is immeasurably enhanced by their playing, particularly guitarist Mike Campbell and keyboardist Benmont Tench. It’s no wonder they get so much session work when Petty is off the road. Pink Floyd Snags Our Cover, Justin Likes The F Word, Hates Pop Affiliation, And More Check it out: Pink Floyd is our new cover story! The piece, written by longtime Rolling Stone scribe Mikal Gilmore, shows how a history of madness and excess helped destroy the legendary band. Judge for yourself tomorrow, when we’ll post choice details about psychedelic rock founders Syd Barrett, David Gilmour and Roger Waters. In the meantime, tide yourself over with our excellent “Dark Side of Oz” mashup. Seriously, what was up with that sobbing girl they kept gleefully showing on American Idol last night. If you feel like reliving the bizarre spectacle, you can watch it here. Notoriously unhinged powerhouse soul singer Amy Winehouse is set to play a mini-US tour later this spring (dates after the jump). The Traveling Wilburys aka the raddest supergroup ever (the band included Bob Dylan, George Harrison, Tom Petty, Jeff Lynne and Roy Orbison) released two studio albums, both of which are currently out of print but will get the re-issue treatment on Rhino June 12th. Awesome. According to Us Weekly, a new interview with Justin Timberlake in Details Magazine reveals the singer’s dislike of his King of Pop title, and his potty mouth. Pitchfork is reporting that Modest Mouse frontman Isaac Brock may have revealing a penchant for scary self-mutilation onstage in South Dakota. “While performing the Moon and Antarctica standout at Ramkota Exhibit Hall on March 18, Brock allegedly began hitting himself in the face with his microphone, then proceeded to draw a knife and cut his own chest,” the site reports. This is all very sixteen-year-old goth of him, but somebody get the guy some help. R&B singer Luther Ingram, who performed the hit “If Loving You Is Wrong (I Don’t Want to Be Right),” among other noteworthy tracks, has died. He was 69. Amy Winehouse Spring 2007 Tour Dates 4/26/07 - San Francisco, CA - Popscene - w/The Klaxons, Kaiser Chiefs 4/27/07 - Indio, CA - Empire Polo Grounds 4/30/07 - Boulder, CO - Fox

Traveling Wilburys Reissues Breed Mixed EmotionsThe Traveling Wilburys were one of the great rock supergroups. Initially formed by George Harrison and Jeff Lynne alongside Roy Orbison and Tom Petty, the band hooked up at Bob Dylan’s Santa Monica studio to record “Handle with Care,” a B-side to Harrison’s track “This Is Love.” They had such chemistry that all the participants decided to record an actual album. Traveling Wilburys Volume 1, which came out in 1988, was written and recorded in ten days by all five members, who posed as a band of assorted half-brothers and adopted corresponding pseudonyms (Nelson Wilbury was George Harrison, Petty was Charlie T. Jr. and Dylan was Lucky Wilbury). A varied lineup of the band then released their second album, the incongruously titled, Traveling Wilburys Volume 3, two years later. These classic records contain audible evidence of the loose, fun times (and great music) shared by several of the coolest rockers ever. And yet, due to various rights issues, the albums have been largely out of print for years, until now. As previously reported, good old Rhino (thank you guys) has finally managed to wrangle a release date (June 12th) for reissues of these classics. We are psyched about this, of course, but it got us thinking about the leverage we’ve enjoyed with our fellow record collecting friends thanks to the fact that we own both albums. Soon anyone will be able to buy them, and while we’re all for it (we totally are) there is this little pang of sadness we’re feeling knowing that we will no longer be able to lord our copies over our friends. What jewel do you have in your record collection that makes you feel warm and safe at night, knowing that you are one of the chosen few who gets to hear it whenever you want?
