Lunchtime Poll: Save “Sgt. Pepper’s” From Razorlight The NME is reporting that a collection of worthy (Oasis, the Killers, the Fratellis) and not so worthy (Razorlight, Travis) bands are covering a collection of songs off Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, in honor of the 40th Anniversary of the album’s release (it came out June 1st, 1967). We can already hear the maudlin wail of Travis butchering “Lucy in the Sky” and we feel something must be done. You are in charge of this project. You get to pick any band currently

Blink-182’s Rock Show: A Look Back at The Pop-Punk Trio’s History in PhotosPhoto: Weekes/WireImage “We played music together and we decided we’re going to play music together again,” Travis Barker told the Grammy audience when Blink-182 reunited to present the Best Rock Album award Sunday night. For Blink, it was their first time onstage together since December 2004, two months before the band went on an indefinite hiatus. Now that the band has confirmed a new album is in the works, Rolling Stone is taking a look back at their history in a new photo gallery: Blink-182’s Rock Show. Blink-182 formed in 1992 in Poway, California, but it wasn’t until 1998 that guitarist Tom DeLonge and bassist Mark Hoppus recruited Barker to play drums on the band’s best-selling album, 1999’s Enema of the State. The band stuck around for two more albums, Take Off Your Pants and Jacket and Blink-182, before its big break. Hoppus and drummer Barker went on to form +44 while DeLonge started up Angels & Airwaves. Following the 2008 jet crash that nearly took the life of Barker and DJ AM, Hoppus blogged that he was hopeful that a Blink reunion could happen after admitting that he and DeLonge were once again friends. “Hi. We’re blink-182. This past week there’ve been a lot of questions about the current status of the band, and we wanted you to hear it straight from us. To put it simply, We’re back,” the band said in a post-Grammy statement on their Website. “We mean, really back. Picking up where we left off and then some. In the studio writing and recording a new album. Preparing to tour the world yet again. Friendships reformed. 17 years deep in our legacy. “Summer 2009. Thanks and get ready… ” the band says to conclude the statement. To help you get ready, check out our photo gallery capturing Blink through the ages, from the Dude Ranch era with drummer Scott Raynor to their stint on the Warped Tour to their little people-backed performance at the MTV Music Awards. Blink-182 Reunite To Present At GrammysPhoto: Guastella/WireImage The Grammys have managed to coax blink-182 out of their five-year hiatus — sort of. The punk trio will appear at this Sunday’s ceremony… as presenters. A Grammy rep confirmed to Rock Daily that blink-182 will take the stage in some capacity, but wouldn’t elaborate on the details. Blink last appeared together onstage in December 2004, two months before the band went on an indefinite hiatus. Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker went on to from +44 while Tom DeLonge formed Angels & Airwaves. Following the 2008 jet crash that nearly took the life of Barker and DJ AM, Hoppus had blogged that the he was hopeful that a Blink reunion might be on the horizon, and recently admitted that he and DeLonge were once again friends. The revelation that blink-182 would reunite to present together at the Grammys was casually thrown into a roll call of other presenters added to the event, including Kate Beckinsale, Green Day, LL Cool J, Natalie Cole and Diddy. As for this morning’s shocking announcement that, barring giving birth, a very-pregnant M.I.A. would perform at the Grammys, a rep for the awards told Rock Daily, “We are stoked to have her on — her due date is on show day yet she still wants to come. It gives a whole new meaning to arrivals if she gives birth on the red carpet.” A mega lineup of superstar performers, Green Day and a reunited Blink-182 as presenters, the possibility that M.I.A. could give birth at any moment — what other surprises do the Grammys have up their sleeve? Follow all the action over at our Grammys hub, as Rolling Stone will be at the Staples Center for this Sunday’s live ceremony. Blink 182 reformationAfter going on an "indefinite hiatus" in December 2004, rumours about the reformation of pop punk heroes Blink 182 have been banded about the internet on pretty much a daily basis. Kerrang! can now confirm that, for the first time in just over four years, singer/guitarist Tom DeLonge, singer/bassist Mark Hoppus and drummer Travis Barker will take to the stage together this Sunday (February 8) to present an award at the 51st annual Grammy Awards at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. At this stage it is unclear whether the band will make an official announcement on the night that they are back together, in a musical sense, or not.

Album Preview: Gym Class Heroes Invite Patrick Stump, Busta Rhymes to Party Under “The Quilt” When Rolling Stone caught up with Gym Class Heroes earlier this year, the band dished about collaborations with Daryl Hall and Busta Rhymes for the upcoming The Quilt. It’s an eclectic roster, but as the preview we heard yesterday proves, Gym Class Heroes are capable of casting a wide net and still making songs that have their own personal stamp on them. The Quilt kicks off with the energetic “I’m Innocent,” featuring “American Boy” songstress Estelle and production help from Fall Out Boy’s Patrick Stump, who worked on seven of the album’s tracks. Stump’s retro R&B finesse shines on “Blinded By the Sun,” which finds Travis McCoy’s raps taking on a reggae tone and Stump slipping in some vocal work for an updated take on Corey Hart’s “Sunglasses at Night.” “Peace Sign/Index Down” kicks off with mild piano under McCoy’s rhymes but builds into an agressive chant to “put up your peace sign, put your index down” — while McCoy hits hard, he’s no match for Busta, who warns listeners “if you ever get in my way, you know you’re done, son.” Hall shows up on “Fly With Me” for a haunting homage to McCoys cousin, who committed suicide last year. The Quilt doesn’t hit stores until September, but “Peace Sign/Index Down” and “Blinded By the Sun” are available on an iTunes EP now. [Photo: Getty]

Tom Morello Welcomes Slash, Perry Farrell, Flea at All-Star “Justice Tour” Stop Tom Morello kicked off his seven-city “Justice Tour” last night by calling every able-bodied rock legend in Los Angeles for a surreal night of music and social awareness at the Troubadour. “This is what happens when I go through my Blackberry,” Morello joked to the crowd before Stuart Copeland snuck behind the drums and Perry Farrell grabbed the mike for a thundering version of the Police’s “Message in a Bottle” just twenty minutes into the evening. It was the start of a marathon night that would showcase unforgettable collaborations by rock royalty for more than three and half hours. The concert featured early acoustic performances by Morello, Pete Yorn, Jerry Cantrell and the MC5’s Wayne Kramer. Morello — acting as master of ceremonies and orchestrating the chaos — then brought out what would serve as the nucleus of the evening’s house band: Travis Barker on drums, Flea playing bass and a rotating lineup of Steve Vai, Slash, Dave Navarro and Morello sharing guitar duties. The dream team backed up Cantrell for a version of Thin Lizzy’s “Jailbreak” and rocked out covers such as Rihanna’s “Umbrella” and Stevie Wonder’s “Superstition.” Throughout the evening Morello spoke about the tour’s goal of promoting local social activism and tackling problems endemic to each host city. While the activism is integral to the tour, Morello is quick to point out that the mood is celebratory and he views each night as “a freedom party.” Sen Dog and B-Real of Cypress Hill didn’t need any help celebrating as they arrived onstage (joint in hand) to knock out “Insane in the Brain” and “Rock Superstar.” Morello closed out the show with a poignant rendition of the Woody Guthrie classic “This Land is Your Land” (like he did at SXSW) that had every voice in the packed club singing backup.
