U2 Considering Residency at London’s O2 Arena? U2 are rumored to be considering a record-setting residency at London’s O2 Arena in the fall, when their new Brian Eno-produced album is tentatively scheduled for release. Prince currently owns the venue’s record for longest run of gigs with twenty-one nights in May 2007. The arena also recently housed the Led Zeppelin reunion concert, and U2, who are currently on the road promoting their new concert film U2 3D, have been rumored to play the venue for months. When asked about the band’s intentions, U2’s manager Paul McGuinness said of the O2 Arena, “It’s got great potential for U2 and because it’s under cover you can do a run of shows in the autumn.” Earlier this week, McGuinness called upon governments and ISPs to end illegal downloading. While that certainly won’t happen by the time U2 releases their new album, the O2 residency would help recoup some of those profits lost as the music industry continues to decline. U2 - The Joshua Tree Artist: U2 Review: The Joshua Tree has been U2's most popular album since about ten minutes after it was released. The 1987 smash was the culmination of their American phase, between their florid, young-European phase and their grizzled, mature-European phase. The album's huge commercial success whisked the lads from superstardom to megastardom, and they spent the next decade trying to recover from it — Bono once described the much more adventurous Achtung Baby as "trying to chop down The Joshua... U2 Working On New Album In Morocco With Old Pals Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno Earlier this year Rolling Stone asked The Edge whether U2 would ever work with producers Daniel Lanois and Brian Eno again. “You might be surprised how quickly that happens,” he cryptically replied. The man wasn’t kidding. The legendary production duo behind many of U2’s greatest albums (Achtung Baby, The Joshua Tree, The Unforgettable Fire, and All That You Can’t Leave Behind) have recently been spotted in Dublin where they’re said to be working again with U2. A few days ago the team moved recording sessions over to Fez Morocco, a familiar spot for U2 who shot the surreal video for “Mysterious Ways” in the African city. It’s unclear whether Rick Rubin, who cut two tracks with the group for a hits collection last year, is involved with the new album. Bono and the Edge are also working on the music for a forthcoming Broadway musical adaptation of Spider-Man. “It will be a while yet before it’s going to see the light of day,” The Edge told Rolling Stone in April. “I think it’s going to be pretty powerful.”
