One of a four-volume series released in the days when CD's were a recent invention, this provides an interesting selection of country classics with a few songs that are now largely forgotten. While this is limited to recordings made for MCA and old labels that became part of MCA, it is nevertheless a very strong selection containing both a mix of traditional country and pop-country tracks.
Conway Twitty and Loretta Lynn each appear twice, once together as a duet and once and once each separately. The Oak Ridge Boys also put in two appearances as they provide vocal support to Brenda Lee on Broken trust.
Terri Gibbs (Somebody's knocking) and John Conlee (Rose colored glasses) sing their best songs while Lee Greenwood sings IOU, which is perhaps his best love song. I've seen plenty of compilations titled country classics that don't justify the title, but every track here really is a country classic, just as the title claim. If you can find this album at a reasonable price, you will surely enjoy this collection.
