'Go Kanye, Go Kanye, Go!': The Kanye Mutant Ninja Turtle Remix [Bodacious!]newVideoPlayer("/goninja_def.flv", 506, 423,""); Having been struck by how much Kanye West looked like a fearsome Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle battling villainous paparazzi ninjutsus in his LAX arrest video—and then transported by a commenter via YouTube time machine back to our honey-sunlit childhoods, when Vanilla Ice dared to ask of the Caucasian hip-hop community, "Have you ever seen a turtle get dowwnnn?"—we were struck by inspiration. Moments later, Defamer video mixographer (with a minor in scratchology) Molly McAleer had composed a mixed-media masterwork, fusing the best of all pizza-loving, nunchuk-swirling worlds. Reptiles and Fat Cats: TMNT Slays Me and ShoWest Pops OffI'm off to Vegas in the morning for ShoWest, the big annual industry convention where the studios floss out their new releases to distributors from around the world.
Some of my favorite movies were shot in Vegas (Casino, Swingers, Very Bad Things), plus I've got a lot of fond memories of the place (love you guys, but this ain't the place to share, right?). There'll be a lot of fat cats in the room, and I can smell the money already.
Some of the big names I'll be hanging with this week: Christopher Walken, Don Cheadle, Jenny from the Block, Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer (permanently cemented in my Top Five Hottest), the legends Tarantino and Rodriguez, Queen Latifah, Freddy Rodriguez, Shia LaBeouf, and Marc Anthony to name a few. Not bad for two days, right? I'll be giving you updates the whole time, aiiight? But tonight, I was pleasantly surprised by the screening of TMNT, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie. It was a huge improvement from the hokey, cornball Vanilla Ice-laced live-action Turtles flicks that hit the scene way back when. This is how it should have been done. The CGI is some of the best I've seen, and the action sequences are dope.
Watching the characters and getting into the world of TMNT again brings me back to my childhood, and that's a great feeling to have while watching a flick. I love how New York is a character, and the computer April is as fly as ever. Some cool voices are in the mix as well: Laurence Fishburne, Chris Evans, Patrick Stewart.
Sure, it's slow at times, and soft (it is for kids, after all), but the lessons learned by Leonardo and Co. are universal. Warners is on a roll, coming off the monster success of 300 and the Oscar win for The Departed. The hard-core fans of the genre will be all over this one, probably spawning a sequel. Drifting off, I'm about to watch Air Guitar Nation on DVD, a documentary about hard-core air-guitar competitions. Besid
