Readers’ Rock List: Bird SongsPhoto: Michael Ochs Archive/Getty In memory of Lynyrd Skynyrd keyboardist Billy Powell, the musician responsible for the famous introduction to the band’s “Free Bird” (and to honor last night’s great effort by the Arizona Cardinals in the Super Bowl), this weekend’s Rock List was dedicated to Bird Songs. It was a heated battle between two former Super Bowl Halftime Show performers, but in the end Paul McCartney and the Beatles’ White Album classic “Blackbird” edged out Prince and his Purple Rain gem “When Doves Cry” for the prize.
