<p>Avenged Sevenfold's 2008 offering is a CD & DVD package designed as a thank-you to the band's diehard fans. DIAMONDS IN THE ROUGH is an 11-track collection of unreleased tracks and alternate versions of songs from 2007's AVENGED SEVENFOLD recording sessions, as well as two cover songs. "Flash of the Blade" is a cover of an obscure Iron Maiden song that was originally recorded for the Summer 2008 KERRANG! MAGAZINE compilation, MAIDEN HEAVEN. Similarly, "Walk" is a cover of Pantera's signature anthem, and was originally recorded for the 2006 KERRANG! MAGAZINE compilation, HIGH VOLTAGE.
<p>The disc LIVE IN THE LBC is the band's first official live concert DVD. This complete live set was filmed during Avenged Sevenfold's impressive, April 10, 2008, hometown headlining performance at the Long Beach Arena in California along the Rockstar Taste of Chaos tour trail. The DVD is presented in HD and 5.1 Surround Sound.

- Simple, a good kick in the butt for any A7X hater
This release simply shows what A7X is made of and how they throw it all to the fans in the concerts... in the cover of walk, M. shadows picks a fan from the crowd to sing the whole song... that was so cool, after wards they let him on stage for the rest of the show. The video quality is good and the sound kicks. This is A7X and how they give a good show. the bonus cd with b sides is really loud as well, cool covers and songs by them. Even the cover of Iron Maiden Flash of the blade A7X style, and let me tell you as a fan of IM, they really got it rocking there. If you are a fan and like city and self titled don't hesitate, this'll blow you away. For some back in the day fans they play second heartbeat and unholy confessions on the dvd. - Love it!
DVD is amazing! These guys put on a great show with awesome lighting and pyrotechnics. Just watch it, you'll love it, trust me!
CD is a lot better than expected as well. How some of these songs weren't considered worthy enough for their other cd's suprises me. All have that distict A7X sound with some great guitar solos as always. The only two I can skip through are the two remakes, "Walk" by Pantera and "Flash of the Blade" by Iron Maiden. "Walk" is a great song, just too overplayed by all bands. A7X does do a great job on it though. "Flash of the Blade" just sounds a little corny for them to be doing, lyrics talking about swords and dragons............
All in all, an absolutely great purchase. I would have paid twice this amount for the DVD alone. Buy it!

- A7X In Their Prime
This DVD, which was taken from a headlining show during the 2008 Taste of Chaos tour, shows Avenged Sevenfold at their peak. They've truly hit their stride as musicians and performers with this DVD. All the songs sound great. M. Shadows voice held up remarkably well. The only downside is that you will want to hear more songs. Songs like "Chapter Four" and "I Won't See You Tonight", which sound amazing live, are not on this DVD. I would've liked to have seen "Beast & the Harlot" removed and have one of the other songs mentioned beforehand replace it.
As far as the "Diamonds in the Rough" CD is concerned, don't think that it's an amateur attempt to boost DVD sales by throwing in a couple of songs that didn't make any other "official" A7X release. Any of these songs could have easily been on their last self titled album. For me, the high points on the album were tracks 5 and 6: "Until the End" and "Tension." It's a good album overall and combined with the DVD makes it worth the buy for old and new fans alike.

- Almost too easy !!
This is a must have for any A7X fan... hey, it's on their home turf and they're giving 110% for this crowd, wish I were there... audio and video quality are excellent... so just get it ! 7 of 10 people found the following review helpful:
- What could have been
I don't care how gorgeous the set props are, or how energetic the band are live, or how awesome the 5.1 mix is, or how sharp the band look onstage, or how crazy the fans are...
...I hate quick editing.
To Ben "Pizza Enthusiasist": Did you and I watch the same DVD? You mentioned that the editing was perfect... it certainly wasn't in what I watched. I love Avenged Sevenfold, but honestly, the editing hurts my soul.
Now of course AUDIABLY it's great, the band are very good live. I did't see them when they came to E-town, unfortunately, but I will catch them next time. THat said though, I can't stand to watch this DVD because of how quickly edited it is.
3 minutes into Critical Acclaim and I already have a headache. Come Afterlife, I just can't stand to watch anymore. So that said I turned it off and just popped in the B-Sides CD insead.
I did LISTEN to the concert, I turned off the TV and listened through my 5.1 speakers, and it's great. I really liked it alot. As for the B-sides, I think they're GREAT! I love Demons, Dancing Dead, Tension, as well as the cover of Flash of the Blade by my favorite band Iron Maiden. And the two alternate versions are great too.
I just hate it when Crack-addled editors edit a video at about 5 camera angles per second. People said Maiden's videos suffered from this, but no actually, I didn't notice it.
I guess I'll just wait until the next DVD comes out and hopefully it has good editing. As well as I got hand-filmed footage on YouTube I could always watch.
