Carnifex is one of the best deathcore bands around. Hell Chose Me is their newest release and is much darker and their most talented release yet. They have a much more professional sound and it all works well together. This is a great album and is a prime example of the new deathcore/deathmetal scene
My name is Jeff Payne and I think that it's important for everyone to know my musical tastes before anyone reads my review because music reviews are so one sided and territorial that it makes it unclear as to whether or not the cd is worth a listen. There is no good or bad. It's all about opinion. I am a huge fan of hard music, and when I say hard music, I mean bands like "Despised Icon," "All Shall Perish," "The Acacia Strain," "Through The Eyes of The Dead," and "Whitechapel." I do not like sing/scream bands that can't make their mind up to be heavy or sound like "Savage Garden" within the same song. This to me is very corny and I believe that it's a fad more than anything. I can describe this album several ways. I think it's funny to read heavy metal reviews where they compare it to "an unstoppable freight train" "riffs so chuggingly heavy, they'll melt your face off dude" or my favorite reviews, "Metal is dead! This music is a total rip off of Vader, Venom, or some other random obscure 70s or 80s whatever metal band." This to me does not tell you anything about the album other than the fact that a stinky long haired fanboy is writing a review for it. Nevertheless, I think that "Hell Chose Me" is the definitive Carnifex album. If you listen to the bands that I described above you should have no problem enjoying this album as it feels right at home with all of the others. The reason that "Hell Chose Me" stands out to me over the rest of their catalogue are the cleverly placed hooks within each song creating a steady flow of unpredictable music that never backs down. "Hell Chose Me" has more traces of Death Metal than the other 3 albums that Carnifex has put out including "Until I feel Nothing" which is their latest release. There is no clean singing here. Every song is hard with no cheese to be found. Most importantly, the sound quality is amazing. The way the double bass spits sounds more incredible the louder you listen to it. My favorite song, by far, is "Sorrowspell." The breakdown in that song is very well written and placed. "Hell Chose Me" is definitely an album worth buying. I can go ahead and say that it's in my top 10 best heavy records of all time. Enjoy!
this album changed my mind. their first two albums arent that great. they sound like every other deasthcore album that came out when deathcore exploded but this album is the one that shows they deserve to still be around. i would skip the first two albums and just listen to this one and wait for the next.
