Cheech & Chong Album: “Big Bambu”
 Description :
Cheech & Chong: Tommy Chong, Cheech Marin (spoken vocals).
<p>Cheech & Chong's second album made the Billboard Top 5 and cemented Cheech Marin and Tommy Chong alongside George Carlin as the preeminent comedians of the stoner generation. Designed to resemble the packaging for a popular brand of rolling papers, BIG BAMBU laid its allegiances bare from the outset. (The record was initially packaged with a rolling paper the size of an LP cover, and every high-school kid of the day claimed to know this one dude who actually used it.) However, the funniest material on the disc may be its least drug-oriented. In particular, the hysterical "Sister Mary Elephant," a reminiscence of Catholic-school youth, and the lengthy "television medley" (originally one whole side of the record) includes pothead jokes in the context of a broader satire of American pop culture. Overall, BIG BAMBU is Cheech & Chong's funniest and most consistent album.

- The Beavis & Butt-head of the '70s.
I'm constantly amazed at the cleverness, originality, and vocal skills of these guys. It's true they're often gross, profane, and do no-brainer humor, but they're also funny as hell, and their capturing of human stereotypes is outstanding. Canadians, Mexicans, Germans, whites, blacks, DJs, coaches, Christians, panhandlers, homosexuals, and even dogs--no one escapes their imitations! Their use of stereo and sound effects to evoke a visual scene is also great. It's also fun nostalgia from the early '70s, those wild days of hippies and drugs. I just wish their albums contained more tracks, like some of their live material and songs that came out in those days. The routines on this album used to be favorite dialogs for high school students to mimic.

- Sassy!
Cheech and Chong are perhaps THE most underrated comedy duo of all time. Although in their movies, the drug routine was bound to get old to new audiences, their audio tapes are far and away their best material. It's clever, entertaining and one doesn't have to do drugs to appreciate it.
- One Of The Best Comic Albums Ever Recorded!
Me and my brothers used to listen to this album over and over. A true classic of the 70's. You should add to your comic collection.
- deja vue
Listening to this Big Bamboo again after three+ decades brought back all the memories of the Cheech and Chong era and the good times I had. I had lent it to someone and never heard it again all of these years and it's still funny, especially without the scratches. If you were a fan get this CD and enjoy!

If I had not memorized this CD when it was an album I might not be sure I was here for the seventies and eighties! The humor is timeless and the timing is brilliant! Worth listening to even sober!
