Dashboard Confessional Album: “Drowning”

This EP is pretty good, especially song #3. My biggest problem is that the cd is so very short that it is not worth the money unless you are a big follower of his music like myself. The quality of the songs are a little rough around the edges especially the first song. But not bad for his first solo project. For those of you new to Dashboard, it is just Chris Carrabas(the singer) and his guitar. He evokes such emotions with his amazing voice, that you just about cry right when you hear the songs. This is a classic example of emo/indie rock. This is mostly slower music and would not recommend this to anyone who is just interested in pop or punk but emo punks should enjoy. You may also recognize his voice from a band called Further Seems Forever, an emo/punk band he used to belong to before he went solo. Further Seems Forever's album is also amazing and recommend it to anyone who likes Dashboard. I also recommend any new comers to Dashboard to start with Swiss Army Romance, his first full length album, instead of The Drowning EP.

I suggest you only get this if you are a true follower. To me these three songs are my favorites. They were what made me love Chris so much. Ever since I first heard them I have been hooked on Dashboard and can't stop listening. If you aren't sure whether you like him or not I'd say that you should get "Places You Have Come to Fear the Most" and then think about spending the $30-$40 on these three magnificent songs.

this cd ep is a collection of the first three songs that were written exclusively for dashboard confessional. they were recorded back in 1998, but they are immediately familiar, and could have fit on 'the swiss army romance'.

however, the fact that this cd has only three songs and lasts about seven and a half minutes might deter some folks from buying it, and rightfully so.

i like this cd. 'anyone, anyone' is most definately the standout track. however, i would only recommend this cd if you are a diehard dashboard confessional fan. if you are interested in getting something from this group(?), i recommend first purchasing one of the two full lengths.

OK, I'll admit that The Drowning is a bit expensive for just over 7 minutes of music, but I think it's totally worth it. Of course I'm a huge Dashboard fan, so I may be a bit biased. But if you've got any of Chris' other CDs then you should get this to add to your collection. The fact that he wrote all these songs in one night is both impressive and strange, but it also leaves the songs in a raw state, leaving nothing but pure emotion in musical form. Despite what everyone says, there is not a bad song on this disc, all three are great. Anyways, if you know that you like Dashboard, then you should most definitely get this CD. If you don't KNOW that you like Dashboard, then stick with the LPs until you're hooked and then buy it. I doubt you'll regret it.

if you are REALLY into dashboard then you will of course like this CD. it takes a few listenings to but you learn to like at least two of the songs. the only problem is the small number of tracks. if you are thinking of listening to dashboard for the first time DO NOT LISTEN TO THIS. go buy 'places you have come to fear the most.'
