- Mostly great
Strong smooth playing and classic songs. But, no amazing spark. This is professional, workman-like bluegrass style Dead, but not Old and In the Way....
The bluegrass is generally strong. I've listened to the swing versions, but they don't appeal as much. Just doesn't feel like Dead to me.
Still, it's great background music, and a bunch of tracks made it onto my iPod.
- A nice take on classic Dead
A fresh take on some of my fav Dead tracks. The Swingin' version of EOTW is excellent. My wife, who is not a fan o' the Dead, enjoys this set for the musical style.
- Solid CD, but not the Dead!
Since it doesn't explain it anywhere on here, be sure that you realize that this CD isn't actually the Grateful Dead themselves! It's a band of bluegrass musicians playing Dead songs without lyrics, only instrumentals.
That being said, it's very well done. Very very strongly bluegrass. It's not perfect, but it is an interesting addition to any Deadhead's collection. Enjoyable to listen to if you just want to relax.
