Great Lake Swimmers Album: “Bodies and Minds”

Beautiful, dreamy music - ideal for headphones during insomnia. This guys voice is really something too. What is with these Canadians - seems like all the great indie music is coming from up north!

An overall improvement from the first GLS long player. Gotta say I like it more than something like Iron & Wine. To take nothing away from Iron & Wine, the GLS sound is just a bit more consistent and pleasing to the ear. Why should you buy it? Because after a long day at work, this is excellent dinner-cooking and dinner-eating music for people who don't want to listen to Miles Davis. Also, the babes will think you're cool.

Haunting, melancholic, simplistic, breathtaking. Tony Dekker takes you on an introspective journey. Bravo!

I love the Great Lake Swimmers for the exact reason that they are rising stars in the "sadcore" genre, their music is gentle on the ears and on the soul. I have plenty of other great music to listen to when I need something loud or something inspirational. I return to the Great Lake Swimmers when I need something relaxing, something gentle, something beautiful. That is exactly what I found in their second album, Bodies and Minds. My first experience with the Great Lake Swimmers was ONGIARA, and I still consider that my favorite GLS album (you never forget your first). Of all the other albums of theirs I've bought, this one comes in as a strong second place.

If you love this band's indie-folk, sad, heartbroken songs from their self-titled album or from Ongiara, then you should love Bodies and Minds too. I hate to say it's more of the same, but yes, it's more of the same...and that's why I love it. Their newest album, New Wild Everywhere, is the album you should try if you want something new and different from GLS, but for the good old sound of silence type of thing that you love about GLS, then go for Bodies and Minds.

Their music is wonderful. I'm not sure of the genre. Maybe dreampop meets folk meets banjo. I could leave this cd looping all day long. Great airy melodies.

If you like Vertical Horizon, Death Cab for Cutie, The Wallflowers, Trashcan Sinatras, The Posies, The Pastels, and last but not least The Verve, ....then you will like this group.
