INXS

INXS Album: “Switch”

INXS Album: “Switch”
Description :
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
INXS: Jon Farriss, Kirk Pengilly, Andrew Farriss, Tim Farriss, J.D. Fortune, Garry Beers.
Recording information: Westlake Audio, Hollywood, CA.
INXS seemed to be finished as an entity after the death of lead singer Michael Hutchence in 1997. Yet in a rather bizarre commercial move, the band signed on to a reality-TV show based on the idea of finding a new lead singer. They came away with J.D. Fortune, a Canadian who at one time made his living as an Elvis impersonator. Surprisingly enough, though, Fortune is a good fit for the band, with a pouty, sultry croon that recalls--not coincidentally--Hutchence.
The appropriately titled SWITCH finds INXS in full working order once again. Though a good many years past their late-'80s glory days, 2005's SWITCH certainly has the classic INXS sound, and their appealing mix of rock muscle, seductive swagger, and dancefloor grooves holds up quite well. The album's first single, "Pretty Vegas," is a driving rocker that recalls vintage hits like "Devil Inside," while moody ballads like "Afterglow" find the band in U2-like stadium-rock mode. After conquering a seemingly insurmountable obstacle, these Australian lads have put themselves back on the map with this solid effort.

- INXS Rocks!

The Switch CD alone is awesome but this added bonus " The making of Switch" just makes it so much more special. This is an intimate view of the relationship that has formed between INXS founding members and their new lead singer, Jason Fortune.

The "Rockstar" facade is stripped away to reveal a story of five musicians that just want to do what they were destined to do,"make great music". This is about their search for a new member (not a replacement) to be the voice of their music. They have ultimately found that person in Jason Fortune, who shares their vision and wants to be part of this band. As the seventh member of this band, Jason is able to be a creative addition to this band while maintaining a respect for the legacy of Michael Hutchence.

INXS shares their personal feelings about some of the songs off the album. Tim, Kirk, Garry, Andrew, Jon, and Jason each put their heart into this album and it really comes through on the CD, especially through such songs as Afterglow, God's Top Ten, and Remember Who's Your Man.

I hope any long-time fans that may still have doubts about INXS's decision, buy this dual disk, watch the dvd and be a part of "INXS's journey".

- Dual Disc

JD does a very good job in some very large shoes to fill. I wish there were more videos - only one for Vegas and a behind the scenes look at the making of it.

GOOD JOB INXS! Arguably one of the best replacements of a Lead Singer from a popular '80s band since Sammy Hagar with Van Halen. As well as the title of this Album (C.D.) SWITCH, very appropriate!
