Disco de Jefferson Airplane: “Live at the Fillmore Auditorium 11/25/66 & 11/27/66: We Have Ignition”

This is an interesting set from a historical perspective, showcasing the band around the time of recording Surrealistic Pillow, up until now undocumented by official live releases. That albums songs make up the bulk of the sets. The sound is good, esp. for the era, with the vocals way up in the mix. The instrumental interplay the band would become known for is still in its nascent stage. Grace is tame and seems somewhat hesitant, compared to the live presence she would soon become. The band would sound much more cohesive just a few months later at Monterey. The shows are dominated by Marty, which may or may not be a recommendation.

While interesting to hear, for me this won't hold up to repeated listening, unlike last years Woodstock set. This is not my favorite era of the band, but if it is for you, and Surrealistic Pillow is your favorite JA album, you should find plenty to enjoy in this set.

great sound for a concert recorded in 1965. grace sounds great. the songs are good what else canyou say. its worth hearing.

Jefferson Airplane never played a song the same way twice. The material is so diverse and you never know where they are taking you. They are the only band that still hold my interest after so many years. I never experienced the band in the 1960's, so I appreciate this release of early material.

With all the early "Jefferson Airplane" recordings, I would recommend getting this album, along with all the other early 'live' Airplane material. They were such a great band for their energy, psychedlic feel, & emotion. Just go ahead and buy all their 'live' early gigs, if your an 'Airplane' fan as myself. These 'live' recordings capture the 'feel' & sign of the times.

Because, perhaps the group accepted and acknowledged the fact that they were the pioneers which they turned-out to be. This was a fluid concert performance not withstanding the pretense of psychedelic evolution...
