Suicidal Tendencies Album: “Free Your Soul...And Save My Mind”

Hey all, This CD is more funky in the vein of INFECTOUS GROOVES. There are more funk songs than rock/punk songs. The 3rd song has the same beat as "Pledge Your Allegiance". There's a hilarious spoken word kinda rant on #9 that is cool, and the lyrics are right on when Mike talks about "Love Songs". All in all not the best ST CD, and I like FREEDUMB better. I prefer the metal CDs of ST than the funk/punk ones. A good CD.

This is the best Suicidal Tendencies album... ever!!! And it marches in a totally different direction than usual. Unlike the last album (Freedumb) which was heavy on the fast-punk (not that there's anything wrong with that), this album seemlessly blends many musical styles including funk and metal (also with the good o' punk rock). Think Red Hot Chilli Peppers on Stereroids. They almost seem as if they are headed in the direction of the older Infectious Grooves albums, while the the new Infectious Grooves Album (Mas Borracho) slid even more in the direction of funk. (Note: Infectious Grooves is pretty much the same band as Suicidal Tendencies). Why aren't these guys more famous?

First off, let me note that this is the music of very high quality. Compositions are tight, musicianship is outstanding and production is good. It just suffers in comparison to previous ST and Infectious Grooves releases. Basically, there is nothing here that you would not have heard already done (better) on earlier works, with some tracks here clearly derivative and forced. Also, while the guitar work here is excellent there are NO GUITAR SOLOS! The great guitar work of Rocky George (previous guitarist of ST) is sorely missed.

I'm a die-hard Suicidal fan. But for some reason, I lost interest in this album after owning it for about a week. The music reminds me of Freedumb meets The Infections Grooves. Not there is anything wrong with that sound. (Freedumb is my favorite album). There is just something missing.. I don't know what it is. When I find out, I'll let you know.

Over the years Suicidal Tendencies have produced some of the best, from the street, from the heart, keyed into the lives of people, representing what many of us has lived thru and felt, this album is good don't get me wrong, but it just seams Mike & Co. are trying too hard to capture what they were instead of continuing to progress and change with life, the thing I loved about manyof there songs/albums. But anyway that's just my two cents worth, don't let it turn you away, the album compared to many bands out there now is still steller in scope. SUICIDAL, Pledge your allegiance, f*%ked up just right!
