The Rolling Stones

Disco de The Rolling Stones: “Shine a Light”

Disco de The Rolling Stones: “Shine a Light”
Descripción (en inglés) :
The Rolling Stones: Mick Jagger (vocals, guitar, harmonica); Ronnie Wood, Keith Richards (vocals, guitar); Charlie Watts (drums).
Personnel: Michael Davis (trombone).
Additional personnel: Lisa Fischer, Blondie Chaplin, Bernard Fowler (vocals); Tim Ries (saxophone, keyboards); Bobby Keys (saxophone); Kent Smith (trumpet); Chuck Leavell (keyboards); Darryl Jones (bass guitar).
Several things are clear from watching Martin Scorsese's concert movie SHINE A LIGHT. One is that the Rolling Stones are old. Another is that they're still able to play with a tightness and vigor that stands up to the music being made by most current 20-something outfits. That energy crackles through the 16 tracks on the SHINE A LIGHT soundtrack, the film's sonic counterpart, which captures the Stones at New York City's Beacon Theater in 2006 in surprisingly stripped-down, feral form.
There's nothing flashy or pretentious about the Stones' performance, which helps highlight their unmistakably natural, time-tested ease playing with each other. Even dusty classics like "Jumpin' Jack Flash" and "Brown Sugar" come off with flair, and lesser-played gems like "Faraway Eyes" and "You Got the Silver" are a welcome treat. The guests-the White Stripes' Jack White on "Loving Cup," Buddy Guy on the Muddy Waters' classic "Champagne and Reefer," and Christina Aguilera on a fiery version of "Live With Me"-enliven the band, and provide some of the album's best moments. Given the amount of live Stones' material available, and the band's already towering legend, the necessity of such a set may be debatable, but it's hard not to hear this for what it is: a good rock show from a band that knows its stuff.

- World's Greatest Rock band at its Best!

In the spotlight of Martin Scorsese's camera crew, the boys try to out play each other with spectacular results. The band runs through the same old hits out of respect for the audience, but also performs rare "live" gems for the hardcore fans. As usual, the boys play a tribute song to one of the old masters, this time, its Muddy Water's "Champagne and Reefer". Guest appearances by Christina Aguilera, Buddy Guy, and Jack White inspire Mick Jagger's sense of humor in the form of insults. Christina shines on "Live with Me"; Jack White appears on "Loving Cup"; and Buddy Guy highlights "Champagne and Reefer". "Some Girls" and "Faraway Eyes" all showcase Jagger's sense of humor. The band, thanks to the steady hands of Charlie Watts and Daryl Jones, the weaving guitars of Ronnie and Richard's, never sounded better. The bass player, instead of looking for [...] in the audience, like Bill Wyman used to do, concentrates on leaving a a straight track for the band to roll. It's buried in the mix, but a big, subtle improvement. The Stones have outdone themselves.

- Nobody does it better

I first saw this at the IMAX theater and what an experience it was. It's better than front row seats to a concert. The cinematography was amazing. The song selection was awesome. The interviews were delightful. The Stones at their very best, as always. Hats off to Scorsese for an exceptional film. Rock on, Stones !!!

- Good Feelings!

While one never knows how sloppy a live Stones album will be, this was a

very pleasant surprise. Mick's vocals are very powerful. Some of Keith's playing is, as usual, a bit off, but one can still feel "funkiness". Standouts are the duet with Jack White on Loving Cup and Girl with Faraway Eyes. Whether you are a younger fan or old timer, this will be enjoyed!

- Another Stunning Live Performance

There's very little here that hasn't been heard before, live or otherwise, and yet this recording has captured the magic of the Rolling Stones with a vibrant freshness that's a lot of fun to listen to. This recording will be in my music rotation for a while.

- Shine a light cd- classic rock fan

My cd came in great shape, brand new. I've been very pleased with my Amazon purchases whether it's my cd's or the many dvd's I've ordered.I listen to basically only classic rock and try to get the prices I can get on my music with quality. Amazon provides both.
