12 Stones

12 Stones Album: “Potter's Field”

12 Stones Album: “Potter's Field”
Description :
12 Stones: Paul McCoy (vocals); Greg Trammell, Eric Weaver (guitar); Aaron Gainer (drums, background vocals).
Recording information: Balance Productions, Mandeville, Los Angeles (2004); Piety Recording Studios, New Orleans, Louisiana (2004).
In the early 2000s, the proven success of Wind-Up Records acts (particularly Creed) positioned the label to develop a number of new artists, including the post-grunge band 12 Stones. The group's momentum was due in no small part to singer Paul McCoy's Grammy-winning guest vocal on "Bring Me to Life," the single that broke labelmates Evanescence into the mainstream. The wealth of experiences gained by touring with like-minded contemporaries Nickelback and 3 Doors Down primed 12 Stones to make POTTER'S FIELD, the group's follow-up to their 2002 debut. In their equally shared writing process, the quartet adopts a fierce melodic-yet-accessible approach, presenting a set of instantly memorable songs, including the hard-driving "Far Away" and the melancholy "Photograph." Although heavy power chords are the order of the day here, the uncertainty of "Stay" and the vulnerability of "The Last Song" show that 12 Stones can rock out with both heart and volume.

- Just waiting to breakout...

I kind of happened across 12 Stones. I was listening to Launch Yahoo radio one day on a computer that wasn't mine, and it was recommended to me from listeners of Switchfoot. The song I heard was "The Way I Feel" on their debut album. Needless to say, I thought it was great, so I got their first album and eagerly awaited their sophomore release. Well, it's here and it's just as good as the first. It's a bit rock and a bit punk...the lyrics are catchy after a couple listens, and the cd can be listened to from start to finish. I hope this is their breakout CD just like The Beautiful Letdown was for Switchfoot. Go buy it today!

- 12 Stones rocks their sophomore release to new heights!

12 Stones is an incredible band, but not only in the genre of Christian rock, but in the rock genre as a whole. The talent of the band really shines on this one: the awesome, heavy guitar riffs, sweet drum beats, and incredible lyrics and vocal talent of Paul McCoy (he has a great singing voice and screams a little bit when it's necessary in the context of the songs) really leave the listener in awe.

They really have an uplifting message for Christians and non-Christians alike that I truly appreciate, but they are definitely not afraid to show their faith in Christ with their incredible words. This band really cares about their listeners - which is also very inspiring.

This is really an incredible compilation of songs. "Far Away" is an incredible smash hit about the feelings and pain someone is going through as his/her friend has committed suicide..... it is truly an intense and heartbreaking song that no rock fan should miss (and please don't think this is depressing music, because it's not..... it is music that's truly relevant to today's society). "Stay" and "Photograph" are a few more great hits off this one that are incredible. Really, the whole album is awesome - I can't even skip through a song because it is really that good!

I've had this one ever since it was released in August 2004, and it is still one of my favorites to listen to a year later. If you like good hard rock music, check this one out! I hope you love it as much as I do!

- Potter's Field

This Cd is great. 12 stones sound has definetly changed to a bit harder but still greatly postive sound. Since their Debut Album they have grown alot and this CD shows it. It shows how much they have grown as a band and hopefully this CD Helps them get more of the airplay and Fanbase that they need. So im saying that you really need to go pick it up weather it be on here or somewhere else.

- Diverse and more creative follow up

When 12 Stones' debt album came out it basically got two types of reviews: awesome or boring from a lack of creativity. The main complaint was the most of the songs sounded the same. 12 Stones must have listened as their follow up album "Potter's Field" is not only more diverse and creative but you can almost feel a deliberate attempt to make their own sound (no doubt stemming from the fact that way too many people compared them to Creed) Potter's Field, to me, makes two statements. First, they're their own band and are not trying to be Creed. Instead, they're trying to create music that they enjoy listening to and playing. Second, they make a statement that they're not going to attempt to reproduce success but instead have the guts to do their own thing.

Highlights on this album include: Speak Your Mind, Far Away and The Last Song among others. This is a great hard rock album for those of us that like the hard rock sound of the music but don't necessarily like the continual screaming or speed drums that sometimes come with it. This album took me a couple spins to get used to but the more I listen to it the more I like it.

- Just Gets Better & Better

After having become totally enamored of 12 Stones from their debut album, I didn't think it would be possible for them to do it better. I WAS WRONG!!

Potter's Field represents a matured and more sophisticated follow-up but without losing any of the qualities that makes 12 Stones great. Their writing and musicianship has stepped up even more and showing that confidence, they've expanded their sound to new and exciting creative levels.

This album (as well as their first) was worth every penny and more!! I'd highly recommend it to any music-lover (and I have)!!
