Motörhead

Motörhead Album: “Ace of Spades [Remaster]”

Motörhead Album: “Ace of Spades [Remaster]”
Description :
Includes liner notes by Steffan Chirazi.
This is a DualDisc, which contains a CD on one side of the disc and a DVD on the other.
Feted by bikers, respected by punks, Motorhead exemplified rock's outlaw chic. On Ace Of Spades their speed-metal attack exploded with unparalleled fury. Thrashing guitars and primitive drums underpinned vocalist/bassist Lemmy, whose blooded-throat roar enhances the trio's aggression. Mind-numbingly basic and deafeningly loud, they savage rock's pomp and circumstance, rivalling 'Louie Louie' for simplicity and excitement. Chock-full of anthems for the dispossessed (witness '(We Are) The Road Crew'), Ace Of Spades is a classic of its genre. Motorhead exude the same cartoon personae as the Ramones, and as a result inspire a similar affection.

- "The ace of spades, the ace of spades!"

Motorhead are the founding fathers of speed and thrash metal. Without this band, there would be no Slayer or Sepultura, so you've at least got to give Lemmy and Co. props for being so influential. And "Aces of Spades" is an essential, legendary speed metal classic. It's full of fast, meaty riffs, great solos, toe-tapping drums, and catchy, gruff vocals. Almost every song on here (especially the title track, "Love Me Like a Reptile," and "We Are The Road Crew") is very catchy. And the album opening title track, which has a speedy, groove-y main riff, is world renowned. Other highlights include the wah-wah solo and shout-along refrain on "Fire, Fire," "Jailbait," "Dance" (which has a pair of tasty guitar solos), the X-rated "The Chase Is Better Than The Catch," and the famous, rhythmic, nearly dance-able "Please Don't Touch." All in all, if you're looking for great, groove-y, contagious and exciting speed metal, Motorhead "aces" it. Plus, this disc is dirt cheap, so what more do I have to say to convince you?

CLASSICK!!!!

I am by no means a metalhead but this disc is just so danged much FUN!!!!!! No nonsense turn the Marshalls up to 11 rock 'n roll with good 'ol Lemmy's strangled bark and runaway bulldozer bass sound, crashing machine gun drumming and vicious guitar! Plus, 'ol Lemmy definitely writes some of the most side-splitting funniest lyrics in metal!

Whenever I need a good laugh or just a shot of adrenaline, this one does the job for me and then some! Also, I have found this VERY useful in clearing my brain of exposure to HORRID new-age music! Throw this on and you'll be barkin' and growlin' with The Lemster in no time!

- Only heavy metal album I ever owned!

A classic - I think Ciaran, my best mate back home, summed them up when we used to see Lemmy (bass playing/vocalist/frontman) at some other show. "'Ere - buy us a pint," was his standard refrain, even to strangers like us! The only difference between Lemmy & his boys & the punk bands were the length of their hair - both lots wore black jeans, black leather jackets, took speed, drank like fish & played similar music - loud, fast & with little sublety! They used to play on a fair number of punk shows in those days, along with the better London reggae bands of the time.

Don't know what happened to Lemmy & his lads (he was really the only constant), but there is no doubt - this is their best - not subtle but fast, loud and great to be drinking to.

I recommend highly!!!

- An amazing thrill ride of an album.

Motorhead, the world's greatest garage band, have really done something big this time. In 1980, when this album was release, there was nothing out there that rocked faster, louder, and harder than this. Lemmy, bassist/singer/song-writer of Motorhead, manages to write a certain type of music some would classify as heavy metal (I wouldnt) and some call it hard rock or punk rock. The music rocks hard enough and fast enough to be called metal, but it somehow doesnt sound pretensious, which is what sets them apart from every other hard rock or metal band of the time period.

All the songs on Ace of spades are good, but the best are of course the neck breaking title track, Love me like a reptile, Hammer, Shoot you in the back, Fire-Fire, and the amazing We are the road crew, a live favorite that put one of Motorhead's road crew members to tears.

This is a great starting place for anyone just getting interested in this incredible band. Other great albums I suggest you get are Overkill, their second album, Bomber, released just after Overkill, which isnt nearly as dark as Bomber, try listening to Orgasmatron, and make sure to get Iron Fist and Anoother perfect day, both of which are unfairly overlooked masterpieces.
